Failing to Speak to Your Neighbors
While you don't want to let everyone know that you are heading out on vacation, especially on social media, you do want to ensure that your neighbors know what is going on. This will allow them to keep a close eye on your home, which will let them catch any suspicious activity. If you are friendly with them, consider asking if they will pick up the newspapers and mail for you on a daily basis, park their vehicle in your driveway every so often, and take your trash can out on pickup day.
